Gur Emir Mausoleum

Bigin A masterpiece of Islamic architecture of medieval East One of the most significant architectural ensembles of medieval East – the Gur Emir was built in the southwestern part of Samarkand at the beginning of the XV century. This majestic complex, often featured in Uzbekistan tours, consisted of a khanaka, the madrasah of Muhammad Sultan (grandson of Amir Timur), and, later, the tombs of Amir Timur himself and his descendants.

Registan Square

Visit Samarkand’s most iconic landmark, Registan Square, surrounded by three stunning madrasahs that define the city’s skyline. Each madrasah showcases breathtaking mosaic work, majestic minarets, and intricate tile artistry.

Sher-Dor Madrasah

Sher-Dor Madrasah (Sherdor) was built on Registan Square in Samarkand between 1619 and 1636. The name translates to β€œMadrassah with Lions”. It is a grand yet slightly exaggerated reflection of the Ulugbek Madrasah, located just opposite on the western side of Registan Square. Although constructed 200 years later, Sher-Dor is larger in size, though it lags behind its β€œelder brother” in the quality of craftsmanship.

Ulugbek Madrasah

Explore Ulugbek Madrasah, the oldest and most historically significant of the Registan ensemble. Founded by the astronomer-king Ulugbek in the 15th century, this building symbolizes Samarkand’s legacy as a center of learning.

 Tillya-Kori Madrasah

Shakhi Zinda consists of eleven mausoleums, which were built one after another in 14 - 15th centuries.
