All Colours of Georgia — 9 Days from Kazbegi to the Black Sea
Overview
Georgia is small enough to see properly in nine days and varied enough that every one of them feels like a different country. This is our full loop: Tbilisi’s balconies and sulphur baths, the Georgian Military Highway to Gergeti church under Mount Kazbek, Kakheti wine country with a supra dinner in a family cellar, the cave city of Vardzia, Borjomi’s springs, Kutaisi’s monasteries and caves, and two nights on the Black Sea in Batumi.
Private car and licensed guide throughout, four-star hotels in the cities, a wine estate in Kakheti. Any start date from April to October; the price drops sharply with each extra traveller.
Highlights
Is this trip for you?
- First-time visitors who want mountains, wine and the sea in one trip
- Couples and families — the car is yours
- Food and wine travellers
- You want to hike seriously (take the Svaneti tour)
- You are short on time — our 5-day leisure tour covers the east only
Our honest opinion
- Georgian food and wine are a reason to come on their own — supra dinners are included where it says so
- Guides are licensed Georgian historians, most of them with a second language besides English
- Mountain roads (Kazbegi, Svaneti, Racha) can close for a day after heavy snow or rain
- Tbilisi traffic adds half an hour to most mornings
Late September is grape harvest in Kakheti: if you can choose, choose then.
The trip in numbers
Your route
Line style shows how you travel each leg: solid = train, dotted = car, dashed = flight.
Day by day
Airport pickup and a first walk: the Metekhi church, Narikala fortress by cable car, the sulphur-bath district and dinner in a courtyard restaurant.
Jvari monastery above the meeting of two rivers, Svetitskhoveli cathedral in the old capital, then the Military Highway over the Jvari pass to Stepantsminda and the Gergeti Trinity church at 2,170 m.
A morning walk in the Sno or Juta valley, the Ananuri fortress on the Zhinvali reservoir and a free evening in Tbilisi.
Into Kakheti: Bodbe convent, the walled town of Signagi over the Alazani valley, lunch and a qvevri wine tasting, then the Alaverdi cathedral and a family supra dinner on the estate.
Tsinandali estate in the morning, back past Tbilisi and west into the Borjomi gorge; evening walk in the spa park.
The Rabati fortress and the cave city of Vardzia — 600 rooms cut into the cliff in the 12th century — then the road to Kutaisi.
Gelati monastery (UNESCO) and Bagrati cathedral, the underground river of Prometheus cave, then down to the coast.
The botanical garden on the cliffs above the sea, the old town and boulevard, Gonio fortress; free afternoon on the beach.

Traveller reviews
What guests wrote
“Our first time in the Caucasus. Everything was easy. Gergeti church in the morning mist, the Prometheus cave, the Black Sea at the end. Guide Tamar spoke beautiful English and even some Japanese words. We felt looked after from airport to airport.”
“Kazbegi, wine country, the cave city, Borjomi, Kutaisi, Batumi — nine days and every one different. Our guide Nino is a historian and a storyteller; our driver Gia never once made us nervous on the mountain roads. The supra in Telavi, with the family’s own qvevri wine and a toastmaster who made us all cry, was the best evening either of us can remember. Late September for the grape harvest was a brilliant tip from Guided Travels.”
“Sehr gut organisierte private Rundreise. Hotels in Tiflis und Batumi ausgezeichnet, das Weingut in Kachetien ein Traum. Der Tag von Bordschomi über Wardsia nach Kutaissi ist lang, aber lohnend. Georgisches Essen: man nimmt zu.”
Good to know
Most nationalities enter Uzbekistan visa-free for 30–90 days. If your passport needs an e-visa, it takes 2–3 working days online — we check your case and guide you at booking.
The local currency is the Uzbek som (UZS). Visa and Mastercard work in city hotels, restaurants and supermarkets; keep some cash for bazaars, taxis and tips. ATMs dispense som and sometimes USD.
April–June and September–November are warm and clear — ideal for walking the old cities. July–August afternoons exceed 35°C; winter departures run at reduced prices.
Uzbekistan uses European plug types C and F, 220V. Travellers from the UK, US and Asia need a standard Euro adapter — one per device is enough, hotels have plenty of sockets.
Everyday dress is relaxed across all four cities. Inside mosques and madrasas, shoulders and knees should be covered; headscarves for women are only needed in a few active mosques — your guide will tell you when.
Your included eSIM is activated on arrival, so you’re online from the airport. Hotel Wi-Fi is reliable in all four cities; your coordinator stays reachable on WhatsApp or Telegram throughout.
Free cancellation up to 30 days before departure. 50% refund up to 15 days before; after that the booking is non-refundable, but you can move to another date once for free.
Medical insurance for the tour days is included. We still recommend personal travel insurance covering cancellation and baggage — we can suggest trusted providers.
