Plov masterclass in a family courtyard
About this experience
Plov is not a dish in Uzbekistan — it is the dish: cooked by men for weddings, argued about between cities, and always made outdoors in a cast-iron kazan over fire. This is the version no restaurant serves.
You meet your host at the bazaar to choose the rice, carrots and lamb together, then cook in their family courtyard — layering the kazan, listening for the right sizzle — and finally sit down to eat what you made, with salads, bread and tea around one table.
What you’ll do
Pick the devzira rice, yellow carrots and lamb together — and learn why each one matters.
Layer oil, meat, onions, carrots and rice over open fire in the courtyard, step by step, hands on.
Plov is cooked by sound — your host teaches you the sizzle that says it’s time to cover the pot.
The whole family joins: salads, hot bread, tea and your plov, served from the kazan at one table.

What guests say
“Very enjoyable and authentic. Four stars because the group that day was eight people, a little large for the kitchen. The plov was excellent.”
“Booked solo and was welcomed like family. Three hours, lots of laughing, far too much food. The recipe card actually works.”
“The best afternoon of our whole trip. Shopping the bazaar with Dilnoza, then cooking in her courtyard with her mother supervising — we still make this plov at home and it comes out right about half the time.”
